iPhone Chat - Dr. Arty
19 April 2009 - Version 1.1.0.0
Dr Arty Chat arrived on the AppStore on Friday 17th April (it only took 7 days to get approved, which was pretty good due to Easter) but we’ve already had a number of requests asking if we can get it to work on the SDK 2.0 and above (the previous release was for SDK 2.2.1). We’re now pleased to say that an update was submitted today to the AppStore, so fingers crossed it should be with you all very soon.
Thanks to Ya Pei for pointing this out to us!
17 April 2009 - Version 1.0.9.0 Released
Dr. Arty is designed to hold conversation (via the iPhone keypad) in which the iPhone
plays the role of some sort of Doctor or the kind of psychotherapist who specializes
in 'non directional' feedback in response to his/her patients conversation.
As long as the user (the 'patient') keeps to conversational exchanges that fit inside
Arty's 'world' it is able to response reasonably appropriately.
Dr. Arty is not a 'real' psychotherapist and the iPhone knows nothing about real
people's problems and how to cure them. So it can not be said that Arty 'understands'
the world of psychotherapy. Dr. Arty simply imitates human conversation responses
within certain defined limits and is most of all just a bit of fun.
My first version of Dr. Arty was developed using a
BBC Micro back in 1987 and was, like this version, based on
ELIZA a computer program written in 1966 by Joseph Weizenbaum.
